About the Region
The Island whisky region of Scotland is the most wide spread region and incorporates all of the Highland Region distilleries which are not on the mainland of Scotland. The whisky produced in the Island region varies from distillery to distillery and very unique in its production methods. The whisky produced on the Islands was always very sought after and well presented none more so than the whisky produced on the Isle of Arran where there were around 50 distilleries in operation over 100 years ago. The Arran whiskies stood as highly in the industry as whiskies of the ‘Glenlivet’. We now see the Islands as a region on their own and growing with a distillery recently opened on the Isle of Harris in Scotland’s North West.
