About the Region
The Lowland Whisky Region of Scotland is large in size but has few distilleries still in production. Usually distilleries in this region are a good entry point into whisky if you have never tried whisky before as they are generally light and subtle. The lowland area of Scotland is very picturesque, often flat with lots of green medows and plenty of farmland. The distilleries more commonly recognised in the Lowlands are Glenkinchie and Auchentoshan distilleries and famous closed distilleries and often collectors items are Rosebank, Littlemill, St Magdalene and Ladyburn. We have just learn that in recent months that Bladnoch is to be reopened and restored back to its natural glory.
