The Whisky
Experience the pinnacle of the “Golden Dram” with the Aberfeldy 19 Year Old Exceptional Cask Series (Batch No. AB0419). This highly limited 700ml release is part of a curated collection of rare casks hand-selected by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod. This specific expression is a marriage of just three casks (3076, 3077, and 3078), which were finished in premium Sherry Casks to enhance Aberfeldy’s naturally honeyed character.
Bottled at 43% ABV, this 19 year old represents a specific “sweet spot” in Highland maturation. The Exceptional Cask Series is reserved for parcels of whisky that exhibit extraordinary qualities during their periodic sampling, and Batch AB0419 was chosen for its remarkable depth of fruit and spice. Non-chill filtered and natural in colour, it offers a sophisticated, high-definition look at the distillery’s robust yet elegant spirit.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich, decadent, and deeply floral. You are greeted by Aberfeldy’s signature heather honey, but here it is amplified by the sherry influence into notes of sticky toffee and dark muscovado sugar. As it opens, layers of dried apricots, roasted almonds, and a hint of polished cedarwood emerge, creating a complex and inviting bouquet.
Palate: The mouthfeel is creamy and wonderfully coating. It opens with a burst of sweet cereal and vanilla bean, which quickly evolves into a mid-palate of rich fruitcake, sultanas, and orange marmalade. The sherry wood provides a sophisticated structure of baking spices—clove and nutmeg—that balances the vibrant yellow peach and malted barley sweetness.
Finish: Long, luxurious, and warming. The finish lingers with a final flourish of honeyed oak and dried fruits, tapering off with a sophisticated, dry trail of soft leather and gentle wood tannins.
The Distillery
Aberfeldy, located in the heart of the Highlands on the banks of the Tay, was founded in 1898 by the Dewar brothers. A unique factual detail: The distillery draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, a stream famous for its alluvial gold deposits, which many believe contributes to the “Golden Dram’s” unique mineral character and silky texture. While Aberfeldy is the heart of the Dewar’s blend, the Exceptional Cask Series allows the distillery to showcase its single malt in its purest form, highlighting the specific interaction between their honey-forward distillate and rare, high-quality sherry wood.
