The Whisky

Bottled at a signature 46.8% ABV, this 700ml Highland single malt is a masterfully balanced marriage of 52% unpeated and 48% peated spirit.

This vatting is composed primarily of 98% ex-Bourbon barrels, with a subtle 2% Sherry cask influence added to provide a structural “glow” rather than dominant sweetness. This release captures the transition of Ardnamurchan from a “promising newcomer” to a mature Highland powerhouse. As always, the distillery remains a leader in transparency, providing non-chill filtered and naturally coloured whisky that stays true to its remote, rugged origins.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: A complex and evocative opening. You are greeted by notes of coconut, oat biscuits, and zesty orange peel, quickly followed by the atmospheric scent of salty sea air and bonfire embers. As it sits, whimsical hints of strawberry laces and fresh mint emerge, adding a playful sweetness to the coastal breeze.

Palate: The mouthfeel is exceptionally rich, creamy, and oily. It opens with the comforting flavours of custard creams and vanilla wafers, balanced by a deep maritime brine. Mid-palate, the 48% peated spirit reveals itself through a sophisticated layer of soft, earthy smoke that never overwhelms the delicate orchard fruit.

Finish: Long and satisfyingly warm. The finish tapers off with a lingering maritime saltiness and gentle peat smoke, leaving a final, sweet trail of creamy vanilla that beckons for another sip.

The Distillery

The Ardnamurchan Distillery, located on the remote peninsula of the same name (the most westerly point of the UK mainland), is a beacon of sustainability. Owned by the independent bottler Adelphi, it is the first distillery in Scotland to be powered entirely by local renewable energy—using a biomass boiler fueled by surrounding forestry and hydro electricity from the Glenmore River. A unique factual detail: Ardnamurchan is one of the only distilleries to use blockchain technology on every bottle.
