The Isle of Arran distillery was build in 1995 and is now one of two distilleries on the Isle of Arran on Scotland’s West Coast. The distillery boasts an ideal spot for production and distribution of whisky with warm fresh sea air, close proximity to the mainland and an abundance of fresh soft water. Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts. In the early 19th century, there were more than 50 whisky distilleries on Arran, most of them illegal and carefully hidden from the eyes of the taxmen. The Island’s malt whisky was shipped to the mainland and enjoyed by the gentry, who regularly ‘took the Arran waters’. It was acclaimed at the time as the best whisky in Scotland – only rivalled by those from the ‘Glen of Livet’
The Arran Wine Cask Finish offers the whisky connoiseur three outstanding bottlings from this island distillery. Using casks that were previously used to mature Bourbon the initial maturation period of approximately 8 years is completed. The single malt is then finished in either an ex port barrel, ex amarone wine barrel or an ex sauternes barrel. These finished are carefully monitored this period of secondary maturation to ensure the perfect balance is struck between the wine casks and the intrinsic sweet-fruity character of The Arran Malt. The end result is Single Malt with a rich brooding character, full of complexity and quality.
