Ballechin is produced at the Edradour distillery. The name Ballechin originates from a fellow Perthshire farm distillery, which sadly closed its doors in 1927. There, Alfred Barnard, who catalogued all the distilleries in the UK in the 1880’s, made reference to having experienced a peated whisky.
Ballechin was first produced in 2003 using heavily peated barley which has a peated level of no less than 50ppm
This bottling was aged for 20 years in 1st fill ex-Bourbon casks. Distilled in February & March 2004 and bottled on the 4th March 2024 at 52.8% alc/vol. Only 2016 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Salty sea air, seaweed and a wonderful balance of smoke and sweetness. Vanilla fudge, milk chocolate, garden herbs, soft oak.
Palate: Maritime smoke, milk chocolate, vanilla caramel, herbal notes, white pepper spice and oily mouthfeel.
Finish: Long with balanced sweetness, spicy oak, maritime smoke, white pepper and creamy vanilla.
