The Balvenie Distillery was first founded back in 1892 by William Grant a cattle herder from the upper reaches of the River Deveron. Having previously worked at the Mortlach Distillery where he was employed as a clerk and then a manager. This is where he learned the distilling trade and was quick to catch on to how successful you could become. David Stewart the Balvenie Malt Master is one of the industries most experienced whisky experts. David created the process wood finishing and changed the industry and the the flavour of whisky.
Balvenie Distillery have always been known for releasing whiskies that look and taste fascinating. This whisky was initially matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels then the liquid was transferred over to casks that previously held Pineau from France. Frech Pineau is a fortified wine, made from either fresh, unfermented grape juice or a blend of lightly fermented grape must, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured.
The whisky has been bottled at 47.6% alcohol by volume and bottled un-chillfiltered with no added colour.
