Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found. Signatory currently bottle at four strengths: 43%, 46%, Unchillfiltered (UCF), 57.1% 100 Proof and Cask Strength. To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.Signatory Vintage’s aim is to offer as wide a range of whiskies as possible, some of which are not even bottled by the proprietary distillery. This allows malt enthusiast to sample the huge variety of subtle differences which occur between casks.

Ben Nevis Distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, which has a summit elevation of 4’406 feet above sea level giving its malt a renowned name ‘the dew of Ben Nevis’ . This imposing mountain provides an impressive background to a traditional Scottish craft. The distillery was founded by ‘Long John’ Macdonald (no he was not a pirate) in 1825 and in 1848 in a cunning way of promotion presented a cask to Queen Victoria when she visited Fort William. They produce both malt and grain whiskies simultaneously due to installation in 1955 of a special still.

This single malt whisky was distilled in 2014, at the Ben Nevis distillery in the Highland whisky region of Scotland. It was matured in 2nd Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts and in 2024 was bottled at 46% alc/vol as part of the Signatory Vintage The Decanter Collection.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Initial fruity sweetness with notes of ripe pear and apple. Subtle hints of vanilla and honey. A touch of citrus, perhaps lemon or lime. Faint background notes of spice.

Palate: Smooth and creamy texture with continued fruit notes. A gentle warmth with hints of ginger and cinnamon. Develops with a malty sweetness and a touch of oak. Well-balanced with a hint of spice.

Finish: Medium length with a lingering fruity sweetness. A subtle warmth and a touch of oak. Fades with a soft, spicy note.
