Fortunately for us, BenRiach’s large production output coupled with their shameless experimenting leave us with some typically well-priced and great whiskies. In this price point, it can be difficult to find a purely sherry-matured dram, and although its in good supply now, it has recently been discontinued. So, snap it up!
Like a lot of sherry matured whiskies, there’s tons of fruitcake, raisins, pepper and cinnamon on the nose. On the palate, you’ll find the oak is certainly not subtle, but that’s to no detriment, with the wood working nicely alongside flavours of chocolate pudding. The finish is long, dry and spicy.
Whilst lacking the refinement of other exclusively sherry-matured whiskies, its surprisingly complicated nature makes it a no-brainer.
