Description

Bruichladdich Redefined Thirty Aged Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 43%           Age: 30 Years Old           Country: Scotland

It was in 1994 that the Bruichladdich distillery closed for a significant period of time. No one new if this modern distillery would reopen its doors and see spirits start to flow through the stills again. A period in the whisky industry that will not be forgotten for years to come. “This spirit endured in Bruichladdich’s warehouse when the distillery had been forgotten. The quality of the liquid after 25 years is a significant sign of guardianship passing from one generation to the next. I feel quite honoured to have worked with it” – Head Distiller Adam Hannett.

The Bruichladdich Redefined 30 Years Old is a remarkable Islay single malt that embodies the distillery’s commitment to quality and its unique approach to whisky making. This expression is part of their “Luxury Redefined” range, showcasing their dedication to producing exceptional aged whiskies.

One of the intriguing aspects of this release is its maturation entirely in ex-bourbon casks. This is somewhat unusual for Bruichladdich, as they often utilise a variety of cask types, including wine casks. However, the exclusive use of bourbon casks allows the inherent character of the spirit and the influence of American oak to shine through. The casks used for this 30-year-old expression were a combination of refill hogsheads (some of which were recasked into fresh bourbon casks after 20 years) and refill bourbon barrels for the final marrying period. This long and complex maturation process contributes to the whisky’s depth and complexity.
The Bruichladdich Redefined 30 Years Old is bottled at 43% alc/vol, a slightly lower strength than some of their other releases. This allows the more delicate flavours to shine through. It’s non-chill filtered and has no added colour, as is typical for Bruichladdich.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose is gentle and inviting, with the oak influence at the forefront. Expect notes of coconut, wild gorse flowers, Brazil nuts, and a hint of vanilla. Subtle floral notes of geranium and rose mingle with pear drops and candied lemons, complemented by soft spices and a whisper of cinnamon. The signature Bruichladdich maritime character is also present, adding a touch of sea air.

Palate: The palate is delicate and refined, with the sweetness of toasted oak leading the way. Light fruits, honey, fudge, and a hint of leather follow, and the floral notes from the nose become more pronounced with time. The American oak contributes to the whisky’s softness, and the Islay sea air provides a subtle salty tang.

Finish: The finish is long and complex, with a vibrant tang of sea salt balanced by warm oak. Soft vanilla and sweet coconut linger, providing a satisfying conclusion.

The Bruichladdich Redefined 30 Years Old is a whisky that speaks to the distillery’s history and its commitment to quality. It’s a testament to their ability to produce exceptional unpeated Islay single malts, and it’s a must-try for those who appreciate the elegance and complexity of well-aged whisky.
