This 12-year-old single grain Scotch whisky, distilled in 2012 and part of Signatory’s 100 Proof Collection, showcases the refined character of Cameronbridge. Presented at a robust 57.1% alc/vol (100 Proof), this expression is bottled with its natural colour and is un-chillfiltered, adhering to Signatory’s commitment to delivering an authentic and unadulterated whisky experience that allows its nuanced flavours to shine. As a single grain whisky, it offers a distinct profile from single malts, typically lighter and more focused on cask influence. It is matured for no less than 12 years in 1st fill ex-Bourbon barrels, which perfectly complement grain whisky’s inherent sweetness, allowing its subtle character to develop beautifully over 12 years. It is non-chill filtered and has natural colour. This is a specific release (#1) from Signatory Vintage’s highly regarded 100 Proof Collection.
Our Tasting Notes
This whisky offers a wonderfully approachable and smooth profile, with a delightful balance of sweetness and subtle spice.
Nose: Expect fresh and clean aromas of sweet vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch. Notes of toasted cereals, gentle oak, and hints of light citrus or confectionary sugar may also emerge.
Palate: Smooth and creamy, with a medium body. Flavours of warm vanilla, rich toffee, and honeyed corn lead the way, beautifully balanced by a delicate oak spice (cinnamon, nutmeg). A subtle fruity sweetness and a soft, malty character add to its approachable complexity.
Finish: Medium length and very smooth, with lingering sweet vanilla, gentle oak, and a pleasant warmth. It fades cleanly, leaving a light, sweet aftertaste. This whisky is an excellent example of a well-aged single grain, perfect for sipping or as a refined base for cocktails.
Cameronbridge Distillery is located in Windygates, Fife, in the Lowland region of Scotland. It is a distillery of immense historical significance, originally founded in 1824 by John Haig, who was instrumental in the development of column stills and continuous distillation. Cameronbridge holds the distinction of being Scotland’s first grain distillery and is currently the largest in Scotland. It is a powerhouse of grain whisky production, with its output primarily destined for some of the world’s most famous blended Scotch whiskies, including Johnnie Walker, J&B, and Haig Club. Today, Cameronbridge is owned by Diageo, one of the world’s largest spirits companies. The distillery does not have a public visitor centre, as it is a major industrial production facility focused on grain whisky. Established in 1824, it was Scotland’s first grain distillery and pioneered the use of column stills.
Signatory Vintage, founded in 1988 by brothers Andrew and Brian Symington, stands as one of Scotland’s most respected and prominent independent bottlers. Their philosophy is rooted in offering whisky enthusiasts a broad and diverse range of unique expressions, often sourcing casks from distilleries whose whiskies are not commonly seen as official single malts.
