Compass Box is known for its transparent approach to whisky making, although exact recipe breakdowns change batch to batch, they generally offer great insight to their components. Crimson Casks focuses on the interplay between Scotch whisky and red wine cask maturation. A significant portion of the blend is matured in ex-red wine barriques, specifically Spanish red wine. It also utilises other sherry seasoned casks, like Oloroso Sherry butts. This combination creates a deep, rich, and fruity flavour profile. The emphasis is on fruity and spicy notes, with characteristics derived from both the Scotch whisky and the red wine casks.
