The Spaniard was inspired by a bespoke whisky that Compass Box created for a bar in New York City, also called The Spaniard. The team at Compass Box enjoyed the sherry forward profile of that whisky so much that they decided to create a similar expression for their permanent range.

The Spaniard is a blend of malt whiskies matured in a combination of sherry casks and Spanish red wine casks. This combination creates a complex and layered flavour profile, with the sherry contributing notes of dried fruit, spice, and nuttiness, while the red wine casks add a subtle fruitiness and a touch of oak. The exact proportions of the blend can vary from batch to batch, but the sherry influence is always prominent. It’s bottled at 43% alc/vol.
