Fiona Macleod 33 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky – The Character of Islay Whisky Company (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 46.3% Age: 33 Years Old Country: Scotland
The Character of Islay Whisky Company is an independent bottler of whiskies from Islay (y’know, like the name suggests), taking inspiration from the Hebridean island’s landscape, culture and inhabitants. The first release in the range was Aerolite Lyndsay, of which there were whispers about during the 2019 whisky festival on Islay, before being followed by another pair of excellent expressions (Grace Île and Fiona Macleod) in 2020. Later that same year, The Character of Islay Whisky Company revealed The Stories of Wind & Range series.
Distilled on the famed whisky isle of Islay comes this whisky from The Character of Islay Whisky Company. Boasting a maturation period of over three decades this 33 year old single malt has developed some spectacular characteristics. Smoke, mature oak, and tropical fruit, Bowmore?
The name Fiona Macleod is a reference to the pen name used by 19th century Scottish writer and poet William Sharp.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Outstanding notes of tropical fruits with hints of char and smokey vanilla combining with significant amount of peatiness after three decades in the barrel.
Palate: Ripe mango’s and candied ginger, oily with hints of citrus and orchard fruits. Then there’s the sea salt, the iodine and the damp wood, it combines with the peat smoke and oh’ how delicious!
Finish: Long and delivers lovely sweet fruity notes, charred pineapple and malted barley peat smoke and salted caramel.
