Glenfarclas 12 Year Old is a subtly sherried Speyside malt, receiving high praise from some (Jim Murray: “sensational success!”). Matured in a combination of first- to fourth-fill Oloroso sherry casks, it avoids being a “sherry bomb,” instead showcasing the distillate’s character with notes of vanilla, tropical fruit, and a hint of smoke. Its flavour profile has led some to speculate about bourbon cask influence, though Glenfarclas confirms 100% sherry maturation. Some find it a well-balanced, “everyday” dram with notes of honey, maple, and spice, while others find it less impactful than expected from sherry cask maturation.

Nose: Sweet and spicy, hints of citrus peel.

Palate: Bold and sweet, toffee, vanilla with just a hint of smoke.
