Our Tasting Notes

Nose: A warming invitation of sweet cinnamon and cocoa powder. Bright red fruits come to the fore, specifically cranberries, sultanas, and redcurrants, while deeper layers reveal worn leather, old newspaper, and a waxy, industrial note reminiscent of a dunnage warehouse.

Palate: The mouthfeel is exceptionally silky and oily. It opens with a burst of mixed berries and strawberry bubblegum, which quickly evolves into richer notes of sticky toffee pudding, dark chocolate, and raisin loaf. Mid-palate, a savoury complexity of tobacco leaf, salted liquorice, and ginger ale adds a sophisticated edge.

Finish: Long, sweet, and nutty. The finish tapers off with a lingering hazelnut and walnut dryness, complemented by a final flourish of stewed plums, soft oak spice, and a faint, mouth watering maritime tang.

The Distillery

Produced at the legendary Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, Hazelburn is named after one of the town’s lost distilleries from the 19th century. While Springbank is known for being “the most traditional distillery in Scotland,” Hazelburn represents its most refined spirit. A unique factual detail: Hazelburn is one of the only single malts in Scotland to be triple distilled and completely unpeated, a process that requires the malting floors to use only hot air for drying the barley. This artisanal, “hands-on” approach ensures that Hazelburn accounts for only 10% of the distillery’s annual production, making every release a rare and handcrafted treasure.
