Islay Ales are the only brewery on the Island of Islay and specialise in creating high quality, cask and bottle conditioned beers AKA Real Ales.
Their beers are carefully crafted and only sold in a handful pubs/shops/restaurants on the island itself. The bottles are usually only available through a select few shops in Scotland and they do not export out of the UK…
However, we are able to offer you the chance to purchase a few bottles for a one-off, short period of time!
Made using the malt from the Kilchoman distillery this ale is delicious on it’s own or of course, paired as a “half n half” with a Kilchoman 100% Islay
Official Tasting Notes
This is a dark, dry brew by using Kilchoman Malt and reducing the amount of pale malt, together with crystal, chocolate and wheat malts and un-malted roasted barley it gives a well balanced and heavy character and flavour.
English Golding and Bramling Cross hops are used for the bittering; giving a fruity edge to the dry bitterness that comes from using highly roasted malts. Late additions of English Bramling Cross hops to the boil add another dimension to the aroma of the beer to leave a chocolate fore taste followed by a smoky peaty after taste.
