The Kilchoman 100% Islay 14th Edition is a unique and highly anticipated annual release from the Kilchoman Distillery. What sets this whisky apart is that, as the name suggests, from barley cultivation to bottling takes place on Islay itself. This is a rare feat in the whisky world, and it gives the 100% Islay releases a special connection to the land.

Kilchoman grows its own barley at Rockside Farm, malts it on their traditional floor maltings, distills it, matures it, and bottles it all on site. This edition, like its predecessors, is a vatting of different cask types, often a mix of ex-bourbon barrels and sherry butts, though the exact recipe varies each year. This allows for subtle variations in flavour profile while maintaining the core Kilchoman character. Because they control the entire process from grain to glass, Kilchoman can experiment and showcase the impact of terroir and their traditional methods.

This year the distillery have taken the harvest from the 2013 & 2014 season. This was the barley variety, publican. It was then matured in selected ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for no less than 9 years. Bottled at 50% alc/vol with natural colour and no chillfiltration.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Signature Kilchoman peat smoke alongside a citrus zest and a subtle sweetness, perhaps reminiscent of vanilla or honey.

Palate: Rich and oily texture, with the smoke taking centre stage. However, it’s rarely overpowering, instead weaving in with notes of orchard fruit, spice, and perhaps a hint of coastal brine.

Finish: Long and warming, with the smoke lingering pleasantly alongside a gentle sweetness.

Because of the cask variations and the addition of water, you might find notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, or even a touch of floral character.
The 100% Islay releases are highly sought after by whisky enthusiasts due to their unique provenance and consistently high quality. They offer a chance to taste the essence of Islay in a single glass, and the 14th edition is no exception.
