The Loch Lomond Inchfad 2016 Aged 8 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky by Adelphi Cask #1326 is a distinctive release that showcases the versatility of Loch Lomond Distillery. Situated on the southern shore of Loch Lomond in the Highlands, this distillery is known for its innovative approach and diverse range of whisky styles.
Inchfad is the name of a small island within Loch Lomond, and this whisky, distilled in 2016, carries the island’s name and a unique character. It’s a heavily peated single malt, offering a smoky and robust profile that’s balanced by the influence of its maturation in a first fill Pedro Ximenez (PX) sherry cask.
Adelphi, an independent bottler with a keen eye for exceptional casks, selected this cask for its ability to complement the peaty spirit with rich sweetness and complexity. The PX sherry cask contributes notes of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and spices, creating a harmonious interplay with the smoky character.
This whisky is bottled at 57% alc/vol, non-chill filtered, and with no added colour, preserving its natural intensity and complexity. Only 205 bottles were produced from this single cask, making it a rare and sought after release.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is a captivating blend of peat smoke and sweet sherry influences. Intense peat smoke is complemented by aromas of toasted marshmallows, lemon zest, and a hint of green apple. Subtle notes of vanilla and charcoal add depth.
Palate: The palate is full-bodied and bold, with an initial wave of peat smoke. Ash, caramelized sugar, and lemon notes mingle with a light spice mix of white pepper and clove. The sweetness of honey and a touch of salinity provide balance and complexity.
Finish: The finish is long and warming, with the peat smoke lingering alongside a soft bitterness from the oak. A subtle fruitiness of pear and a hint of citrus offer a refreshing counterpoint.
The Loch Lomond Inchfad 2016 Aged 8 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky by Adelphi Cask #1326 is a whisky that pushes the boundaries of flavour and expectation. It’s a testament to Loch Lomond’s versatility and Adelphi’s expertise in cask selection. If you’re looking for a whisky that combines the intensity of peat smoke with the richness of sherry maturation, this expression is an excellent choice.
