The Mac-Talla Flora is a unique expression within the Mac-Talla range, as it’s a lightly peated Islay single malt. This distinguishes it from the more heavily peated expressions like the Mara. As always with Mac-Talla, the specific distillery source on Islay remains undisclosed.

Flora is designed to showcase a different side of Islay whisky, emphasising its floral and botanical character alongside a gentle touch of peat smoke.This is achieved through a combination of maturation in ex-sherry casks (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) and ex-bourbon barrels. The sherry casks contribute rich fruit and spice notes, while the bourbon barrels bring balance with floral vanilla.

Bottled at 48.2% alc/vol, it’s a more approachable strength than some of the cask strength Mac-Talla releases, making it potentially appealing to a wider range of whisky drinkers. Like all Mac-Talla bottlings, it’s non-chill filtered and has no added colour.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Expect fragrant notes of soft stone fruit and floral orchard blossom, complemented by woody spice and a subtle wisp of peat smoke

Palate: The palate is delicate, with layers of butterscotch supporting elegant heather, smoked almonds, and soft peat smoke

Finish: The finish offers roasted nuts, oaken vanilla, delicate smoke, and charred oak.

It’s a great choice for those who enjoy the island’s signature peat smoke but prefer it in a more restrained and nuanced form, accompanied by floral and fruity notes. It’s a whisky that invites exploration and contemplation, offering a different facet of the Islay character.
