Celebrate the artistry of natural hues with The Macallan 15 Year Old Colour Collection. Originally launched as a Global Travel Retail exclusive, this 700ml expression is part of a 2024-2025 series designed to showcase the spectrum of natural colour derived from maturation in Sherry-seasoned oak casks. Unlike the distillery’s core Double Cask range, the Colour Collection focuses on a character led primarily by American oak, subtly balanced with a touch of European oak, all sourced from the bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Bottled at 43% ABV, this 15 year old sits as the “bright citrus” anchor of the collection. The packaging and visual identity were created in collaboration with legendary graphic designer David Carson, who used the sun-drenched orchards of Jerez as his inspiration. True to The Macallan’s “Six Pillars,” this whisky contains no artificial colouring, with its rich beech hue being the 100% natural result of 15 years interacting with seasoned wood.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Gentle and invitingly sweet. You are greeted by the aroma of vanilla toffee and gentle oak, followed by a vibrant burst of candied orange peel. As it opens, deeper notes of crystallised ginger and sultanas emerge, creating a fragrant, dessert like bouquet.

Palate: The mouthfeel is silky and soft. It delivers a refined profile of sweet citrus pastry and creamy vanilla custard. Mid-palate, the American oak influence shines with baked peaches and golden syrup, while the subtle European oak provides a hint of toasted walnut and hazelnut praline.

Finish: Medium and elegantly balanced. The finish tapers off with a lingering note of citrus and toasted oak, leaving a final, warming trail of cinnamon spice and milk chocolate.

The Region

Speyside is home to The Macallan’s sprawling, futuristic estate, but the “Colour Collection” is equally a tribute to Jerez, Spain. A unique factual detail: The Macallan is one of the only distilleries to maintain a “from-forest-to-bodega” supply chain, overseeing the seasoning of their own casks with Oloroso sherry for up to 18 months before they ever reach Scotland. In this 15-year-old expression, the use of predominantly American oak results in a lighter, more “naranja” (orange) profile than the dark, spicy fruits typically associated with traditional European oak sherry maturation.
