MacDonald’s Glencoe 8 Years Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Ben Nevis Distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, which has a summit elevation of 4’406 feet above sea level giving its malt a renowned name ‘the dew of Ben Nevis’ . This imposing mountain provides an impressive background to a traditional Scottish craft. The distillery was founded by ‘Long John’ Macdonald (no he was not a pirate) in 1825 and in 1848 in a cunning way of promotion presented a cask to Queen Victoria when she visited Fort William. They produce both malt and grain whiskies simultaneously due to installation in 1955 of a special still.
Golden liquid plays a traditional part in supplying good warming Scottish hospitality in this wild part of Scotland.
This whisky was launched back in the late 1960’s by Rory McDonald, a direct descendant of Long John McDonald, the founder of the Ben Nevis distillery in 1825. Despite the high strength of this product it is highly regarded by the passionate whisky drinker.
Jim Murray has this to say of it in his “Whisky Bible 2004” :- ‘Mouthwatering in parts, lots of cereal, spice and kick’.
Monde Selection awarded a silver medal to this vatted malt in 2002.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Fruity, toffee, spices, caramel, honey sweetness and black pepper.
Taste: Oranges and sea salt, malty with plenty of oak. Toffee and caramel sweetness with cracked black pepper.
Finish: Oaky and drying, almonds and toffee.
