This is the second bottling from the Nature of Shinshu series. It’s a lightly peated expression, with parts of it matured in casks that previously matured Japanese wine.
The second edition of Japanese distillery Mars’ Komagatake Nature Of Shinshu series – Kohiganzakura.
Following on from Rindo, the Komagatake series is the home of Mars’ limited edition release and has previously seen the Revival 2011 and American & Sherry Oak bottling’s.

Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Dried apricots and burnt orange rind, some marzipan and digestive biscuits.
Palate: Mandarin or nectarines, fresh strawberries.
Finish: A short finish which expresses plenty of smoke.

This is good but underwhelming at the price. I suspect that the blending of short barrel age whisky with the historical stock, which is justifiably famous, has resulted in a loss of refinement. Average, at best.
