Bottled in February 2025 at a formidable 55.9% ABV, this is Batch 27 of the distillery’s most anticipated annual small batch series. This specific vatting features an adventurous cask recipe of 60% Bourbon barrels, 35% Sherry casks, and 5% Rum casks, offering a “high-definition” look at the distillery’s legendary character.

The 5% Rum influence was specifically chosen for this batch to introduce a bright, tropical lift that cuts through the traditional “Springbank funk.” As always, this release is non-chill filtered and natural in colour. It represents a masterclass in balance, where the intensity of cask-strength alcohol is tamed by a decade and a half of complex wood interaction, resulting in a dram that is oily, coastal, and intensely rewarding.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: A sweet and vibrant introduction. You are greeted by pineapple syrup and warm banana loaf, followed by notes of vanilla fudge and raisin bread. As it sits, the classic Campbeltown brine and a soft wisp of kiln smoke emerge, alongside a hint of earthy leather and old dunnage warehouses.

Palate: The mouthfeel is characteristically fat and oily. A powerful surge of toffee apple and milk chocolate floods the tongue, followed by a savoury mid-palate of cracked pepper and salted caramel. The rum influence adds a refined tropical edge with flashes of papaya and candied citrus balanced by a gentle earthiness.

Finish: Long, smouldering, and evolving. The sweetness continues with notes of cinnamon and crème brûlée, finally drying out with lingering ember like peat, dark cocoa, and a final maritime flourish of sea salt.

Springbank is a true icon of the whisky world, located in the historic region of Campbeltown. It is one of the only distilleries in Scotland to perform every step of the process on-site—from the traditional floor malting of their own barley to the final bottling.
