Our Tasting Notes
This whisky offers a complex and captivating profile, marrying Teaninich’s often crisp and waxy character with the profound sweetness and depth of a first-fill PX sherry finish.
Nose: Expect an elegant and precise array of aromas. Initial notes of rich dried fruits like raisins, figs, and dates are prominent, beautifully integrated with hints of dark chocolate, treacle, and spiced orange peel. Subtle nuances of polished wood and a delicate savoury undertone from Teaninich’s spirit might also emerge.
Palate: Balanced, rich, and full-bodied, coating the mouth with a luxurious texture. Flavours of dark caramel, rich fruitcake, and candied orange peel lead, beautifully integrated with warming baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) and a subtle pepperiness. Notes of roasted nuts and a profound, well-integrated sherry sweetness define the experience.
Finish: Elegant, long-lasting, and profoundly satisfying. The rich dried fruit and chocolate notes intertwine with a persistent, complex spice and a subtle dry oak, leaving a memorable and evolving impression. This whisky is an exceptional example of a well-aged single malt, demonstrating the complexity and enjoyment these whiskies can offer.
Teaninich Distillery is located in Alness, Ross-shire, in the Highland region of Scotland, close to the Cromarty Firth. It holds a significant place in Scotch whisky history, operating largely behind the scenes as a vital supplier of malt whisky for various blends. Founded in 1817 by Hugh Munro, Teaninich is one of Scotland’s older distilleries. It has seen various owners over its history, eventually becoming part of Diageo. It is unique for its use of a mash filter press instead of a traditional mash tun, which creates a very clear wort and contributes to its clean spirit. and does not have a public visitor centre.
Signatory Vintage, founded in 1988 by brothers Andrew and Brian Symington, stands as one of Scotland’s most respected and prominent independent bottlers. Their philosophy is rooted in offering whisky enthusiasts a broad and diverse range of unique expressions, often sourcing casks from distilleries whose whiskies are not commonly seen as official single malts.
