The Whisky

Originally a Global Travel Retail exclusive, this 700ml single malt is the youngest expression in a 2024-2025 series celebrating the distillery’s commitment to natural colour and sherry seasoning. Matured for 12 years primarily in Sherry seasoned American oak casks, with a subtle inclusion of European oak, it offers the lightest and freshest profile in the collection.

Bottled at 40% ABV, the 12 year old is designed to evoke the “pale terroir” of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The packaging, a collaboration with visionary artist David Carson, features “albero” (earthy yellow) hues that mirror the chalky soils and golden sunshine of the Andalusian vineyards. As with all Macallan whiskies, its “Golden Oak” hue is 100% natural, derived entirely from the interaction between the spirit and the seasoned wood.

Finish: Medium and remarkably clean. The finish lingers with a final flourish of sweet oak and citrus peel, leaving a refreshing trail of apple and gentle spice.

While distilled in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, the “Colour Collection” is a deep tribute to the Jerez region of Spain. A unique factual detail: The Macallan associates this 12-year-old with the “Albariza” soil of Jerez—the white, calcium-rich earth that reflects the sun and allows the Palomino grapes to thrive. This specific soil is used as a medium in David Carson’s artwork for the range. By focusing on American oak seasoned with Oloroso sherry for this age statement, the distillery achieves a “zesty and creamy” profile that serves as the perfect introduction to the deeper, more resinous 15 and 18 year old expressions.
