Torabhaig Allt Gleann is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye’s Torabhaig Distillery. It’s the second release in their Legacy Series, showcasing their signature style of peated whisky with a focus on balance and complexity.

The distillery, established in 2017, is relatively new, but it’s already making waves with its distinctive approach to whisky making. Torabhaig uses a combination of Concerto and Laureate barley, along with two different yeast strains, to create a complex and flavourful spirit. Allt Gleann is matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels (80%) and refill whisky casks (20%), resulting in a whisky that balances the sweetness of bourbon with the depth and spice of older whisky casks.

It’s bottled at 46% alc/vol, non-chill filtered, and with no added colour, allowing its natural character to shine through.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose is a captivating mix of aromas. Woody tobacco and vanilla shortbread mingle with earthy peat smoke, lemon zest, and a hint of smoked shellfish. Heathery smoke, blossom honey, and barley sugars add sweetness, while a touch of salty sea air rounds out the profile.

Palate: The palate is bolder than the nose, with the peat smoke taking centre stage. Coastal tar and an oily texture coat the mouth, followed by roasted, salted nuts and a light fruit salad. Heather and fennel add a floral touch, while metallic pepper spice and oily citrus provide a zesty counterpoint. Hints of tropical fruit and vanilla biscuits linger, with a subtle medicinal undertone.

Finish: The finish is long and complex, with the sweetness of fruit notes like apple and kiwi emerging. Vanilla oak and peat smoke continue from the palate, alongside a refreshing sea breeze and briny harborside character. Notes of tobacco and a gentle peat influence linger, providing a satisfying conclusion.
