Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found. Signatory currently bottle at four strengths: 43% The Vintage Collection, 46% Unchillfiltered (UCF), 57.1% 100 Proof Collection and Cask Strength Collection. To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.Signatory Vintage’s aim is to offer as wide a range of whiskies as possible, some of which are not even bottled by the proprietary distillery. This allows malt enthusiast to sample the huge variety of subtle differences which occur between casks.
Whitlaw bottlings are produced by companies that buy casks from the Highland Park distillery and then age and bottle the whisky themselves. Highland Park, like many distilleries, is very strict about the use of its brand name. They often don’t allow independent bottlers to use the Highland Park name directly. To get around this, independent bottlers use pseudonyms like Whitlaw to indicate the origin of the whisky without directly using the Highland Park name. The Whitlaw Hills, located adjacent to the distillery, serve as the inspiration for the name and provide a clear hint to whisky connoisseurs about the whisky’s origin.
This single malt whisky was distilled in 2014 at an undisclosed distillery which could possibly be on the island of Orkney and could also have the initial HP. It was placed in a rechared barrel and left to mature for 10 years. In 2024 it was bottled at 46% alc/vol as part of the Signatory Vintage, Vintage collection.
Our Tasting Notes

Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with a pronounced peat smoke presence. Earthy flavours, with notes of wood smoke and a hint of salinity. A subtle sweetness emerges, with hints of dried fruit. Warming spice notes, such as clove and liqourice, add complexity.
Finish: Long and lingering finish, dominated by peat smoke and earthy notes. A hint of sweetness and a salty tang. The smoky notes fade, leaving behind a dry, ashy character.
