Murray McDavid are highly respected in the Scotch whisky industry, mainly for independently bottling whisky after selecting and ageing the spirit in high quality oak casks. Established in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Gordon Wright at the closed site of the Coleburn distillery in Speyside, Scotland.  They are also known for the purchase of the closed Bruichladdich Distillery in 2000 and reopening this dormant distillery. They did such a good job of restoring production it was sold to Remy Cointreau in 2012 with a considerable profit.

This independent bottling by Murray McDavid has been initially matured in a 250 litre refill ex-Bourbon Hogshead for no less than 11 years. It was then finished in a Pomerol Wine Hogshead for no less than 10 years. After being matured for no less than 21 years in high quality oak casks it was bottled at 54.7% ABV as part of the Murray McDavid Mission Gold limited release series. Only 290 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.

About The Distillery

The Bunnahabhain Distillery is the most northerly and remote on the island of Islay and was opened in 1883 to make use of excess grain from local farmers. The name Bunnahabhain translates as ‘mouth of the river’ and if you ever visit will see that the distillery is built near the mouth of the River Margadale which flows into the Sound of Islay. Pronounced Bú-na-ha-venn, this Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky is quite distinct from the many others on the island, given the wonderfully gentle taste profile for which it is known.
