Owned by the spirits powerhouse Diageo the Lagavulin Distillery has stood tall for many years, since 1816 to be exact. The distillery itself sits in the village of Lagavulin on the south side of the island Islay off Scotland’s West Coast. Most whisky connoisseurs name Lagavulin to be their first whisky that inspired them to follow whisky and an industry basked in mystery and wonder. The name Lagavulin is an anglicisation of Lag a’ Mhuilinn, the Scottish Gaelic for hollow of the mill.

The Special Releases ‘Spirited Xchange 2023’ Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection was created in collaboration with eight illustrators. United by their passion for exploration and discovery, the illustrators pay homage to their individual cultures through the intricate and captivating designs that adorn the packaging. Each illustration is unique and dedicated to the beloved distilleries and the stories of the spirit, creating a compelling storytelling moment that places the expression at the heart of the experience, bringing the brand to life.

This Lagavulin, ‘The Ink of Legends’ has Islay’s traditional smokiness and is finished for 18 months in Don Julio Anejo Tequila casks with a total maturation of 12 years before being bottled at 56.4% alc/vol.

The Artist: Raul Urias

Raul Urias is a Mexican illustrator whose work combines modern design with Aztec and Mayan styles, using vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and organic shapes inspired by the flora and fauna of his home state to create compelling imagery that celebrates Mexican art and culture.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Smoky campfire, summer fruits with a touch of charcoal

Palate: More smoke, dark fruits, citrus peel and elements of oak and spice

Finish: Sweet and slightly salty, medium finish.
