Description
Bruichladdich Black Arts 10.1 Aged 29 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 45.1% Age: 29 Years Old Country: Scotland
It was in 1994 that the Bruichladdich distillery closed for a significant period of time. No one new if this modern distillery would reopen its doors and see spirits start to flow through the stills again. A period in the whisky industry that will not be forgotten for years to come. “This spirit endured in Bruichladdich’s warehouse when the distillery had been forgotten. The quality of the liquid after 25 years is a significant sign of guardianship passing from one generation to the next. I feel quite honoured to have worked with it” – Head Distiller Adam Hannett.
This is Adam’s tenth Black Arts release from the Bruichladdich Distillery, an un-peated single malt bursting with fruits and layered textures. We do not get to understand which casks types were used, it remains a secret. We do know that every drop was distilled and matured on Islay and it was bottled at 45.1% abv with no artificial colouring and it is non chillfiltered. These releases from the Bruichladdich Distillery are a collectors piece or a whisky to savour in good company.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Warm and inviting, a bright fruity note welcomes you. The fragrant toasted oak brings chocolate praline, cedar, leather and subtle hints of clove and nutmeg, before moving to fruit notes of sweet apricot jam, ripe melon, dark cherries and blackcurrants. There is a light touch of citrus with lemon zest and gooseberries dipped in honey, with delicate floral notes of geranium and honeysuckle balanced with a hint of iodine and leather.
Palate: Orange barley sugars, ginger nut biscuits and lemon meringue pie are followed by sweet apricot jam and marzipan. The toasted oak brings smooth chocolate and vanilla notes, beautifully complemented with syrupy fruit, raisins, plum and melon. Over time, iodine and a hint of coconut come through, with delicate oak spices of warming ginger and cinnamon. A velvet texture, the depth and balance of this single malt glides across the palate.
Finish: Tablet and smooth fudge bring a softness to the finish, while ripe soft fruits, subtle tobacco and a hint of ginger linger.
