Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Complex and immensely deep, immediately presenting aromas of dark leather, old polished wood, rich espresso, and sun-dried figs, followed by an unmistakable hint of honeyed sweetness and spice.

Palate: Sublime, oily, and textural, featuring concentrated notes of dark molasses, Christmas cake, vintage marmalade, and soft cinnamon. The extreme age is evident in the remarkable smoothness, with the oak influence perfectly integrated, yielding a profound warmth rather than dryness.

Finish: Exceptionally long, graceful, and warming, settling into notes of dark cocoa, soft tobacco leaf, and a final, lingering elegance.

The Independent Bottler / The Owners

This is an Official Distillery Bottling from J. & G. Grant, the family owners of Glenfarclas. Since 1865, Glenfarclas has remained proudly independent and family owned, a true rarity in Speyside. The “Warehouse Edition” highlights the family’s meticulous control over their cask inventory. This independence ensures that every decision, especially regarding the release of precious 40 year old stock, is driven solely by the pursuit of quality, maintaining the brand’s revered status among connoisseurs.

The Distillery

Glenfarclas Distillery is a celebrated name in Speyside, famous worldwide for its dedication to sherry maturation. The distillery utilises traditional direct fired stills (heated directly by fire, a method now rare) which is thought to impart a unique depth and richness to its spirit. This 40 year old release embodies the “Glenfarclas house style”: rich, sherried, powerful, and built for the long haul in the traditional dunnage warehouses that give this edition its name.
