Rare Japanese Whiskies
This month we have introduced some rare and very hard to find Japanese whiskies to our webstore. Single malts and blends from Akashi, Chichibu, Mars, Hakushu, Yamazaki, Nikka and many more.
It’s worth taking a look through the range and discovering something a little different to fill that Christmas stocking.
Mars ‘The Lucky Cat’ Blended Whisky “Ash 99”
This is a second edition release of this bottling from the Mars Distillery. The name ‘Lucky Cat’ came about as the owner of the distillery owns a cat and has fallen in love with his feline friend. He was waiting for the day he could produce a product that allowed him to use a name that related to his companion.
The whisky is a vatting malt which was aged in ex-Bourbon barrels ex-Brandy barrels and ex-Sherry barrels combined with blended grain.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Lots of fresh fruits, mainly orange and apples.
Palate: The orange comes through on the palate, some citrus and plenty of creamy vanilla. Raw cookie dough, like licking the baking bowl afterward.
Finish: Mint and extremely well balanced.

Nikka Coffey Malt
This whisky is distilled in a “Coffey still”, which is a very traditional and rare patent still Nikka imported from Scotland in 1963. The Coffey still produces a complex whisky with a mellow and sweet taste originating from the grain itself. Please enjoy the uniqueness of this whisky which Nikka offers to the connoisseurs.
Recently winning Jim Murray’s award in the 2018 Whisky Bible for Japanese Whisky of the Year and Single Malt of the Year (Multiple Barrels).
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Did someone say vanilla three ways………….creme brûlée, ice cream and custard, freshly made caramel, my mother-in-laws shortbread so buttery and delicious.
Palate: More outstanding vanilla’s, desiccated coconut which reminds me of a lamington with the softened dark chocolate and fresh vanilla sponge. The buttery shortbread sticks around and a little hint of orange leads to the finish.
Finish: Buttery and long, such a great aftertaste and full of malty goodness.

Ichiro’s Malt Mizunara Wood
This whisky was matured in Mizunara which is commonly referred to as Japanese oak. Mizunara oak is commonly used for the maturation of whisky and was used to finish this Ichiro’s Malt whisky.
This Mizunara Wood Reserve is a vatted malt of Hanyu and Chichibu single malts. Pure Malt matured in Japanese Oak, vatted and bottled at Chichibu distillery.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Wood shavings, perhaps a freshly sharpened pencil, rum and raisin ice cream, plenty of floral aromas of cut grass and some Sandalwood.
Palate: There’s the signature apples and pears but with a little citrus added. Toffee sweetness attracts honey and malt.
Finish: A little peppery and some spicy ginger.
