Cadenhead’s Seven Stars 30 Years Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 48.2% Age: 30 Years Old Country: Scotland
Scotch Whisky is known the world-over by the Brand names of large blending companies. These blends are the mixture of the products of various distilleries which were originally independent family owned units. Until the middle of the 20th century there were many small firms that bottled and sold the pure product of the local distilleries. Since Victorian times the firm of William Cadenhead has provided this service. However a diminution of public interest caused the small bottling companies to close down. Only a small handful of distilleries still remain in the ownership of their founding families and even fewer of the bottling companies remain active, William Cadenhead is one of the notable survivors.
The label on this bottle was originally used many decades ago when the independent bottler Cadenhead created a blend from their massive warehouse of barrels. They’ve resurrected the blend and the label along with the name 7-Stars. I’m not too sure this liquid is from Cadenhead’s own stocks and from what I know it was purchased in a cask already blended. Cadenhead are not very open as to what was in the cask, no name of distillery, no specific region but we do know it’s all Scottish and it was bottled at 48.2% Alc/Vol. It has been matured in a sherry cask for all of if not part of the 30 years since being distilled. The bottle reads ‘containing the finest Single Malt and Grain Whiskies’. Matured for a minimum of 30 years and bottled at natural cask strength.
From the team at Cadenhead’s, “Our traditions and methods haven’t changed and so we have resurrected 7-Stars using whisky from distilleries all over Scotland. The blend is then finished in Oloroso sherry casks – giving it a bolder, yet well balanced, flavour”.
