The word “Cardhu” derives from the Scots Gaelic Carn Dubh, meaning “Black Rock”. Cardhu is a Speyside distillery near Archiestown in Moray, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1824 by whisky smuggler named John Cumming and his wife Helen. Now run by owned and run by spirits powerhouse Diageo and the distillery’s Scotch whisky makes up an important part of the Johnnie Walker blended whiskies.

The Cardhu Gold Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a well-known and approachable expression from the Cardhu distillery, located in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. It’s designed to be a fruitier, warmer, and more accessible alternative to the distillery’s classic 12 year old expression. Cardhu Gold Reserve is a no age statement (NAS) whisky. Instead of a specific age, its profile is achieved by a careful selection of casks by the master blender. It’s matured in a combination of hand picked toasted oak casks. This type of cask maturation is specifically chosen to impart a different character than the standard Cardhu expressions, emphasising fruit and spice notes. Bottled at 40% alc/vol.

Palate: The mouthfeel is smooth and well structured. The initial sweetness of honey and toffee is balanced by a crisp fruitiness, described as apple and pear. As you continue to sip, you’ll notice a gentle spiciness from the toasted oak, with notes of cinnamon and a touch of dryness. Hints of dark chocolate.

Finish: The finish is generally a medium length, warm and pleasant. The sweetness of the caramel and toffee lingers, accompanied by a gentle oaky dryness and a hint of spice
