Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found. Signatory currently bottle at three strengths: 43%, 46% Unchillfiltered (UCF) and Cask Strength. To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.Signatory Vintage’s aim is to offer as wide a range of whiskies as possible, some of which are not even bottled by the proprietary distillery. This allows malt enthusiast to sample the huge variety of subtle differences which occur between casks.
Glen Ord Distillery, a historic gem nestled in the heart of the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, boasts a rich heritage dating back to 1838. Founded by Thomas Mackenzie, a member of the Clan Mackenzie, the distillery has been producing high quality single malt Scotch whisky for nearly two centuries. One of the defining characteristics of Glen Ord is its unique approach to fermentation. The distillery employs one of the longest fermentation periods in the industry, allowing for a complex and flavourful wash. This extended fermentation process contributes to the distinctive fruity and floral notes that are characteristic of Glen Ord whiskies. Glen Ord is primarily known as the home of The Singleton of Glen Ord, a single malt brand that has gained international recognition. The Singleton of Glen Ord is renowned for its elegance and balance, often showcasing notes of honey, vanilla, and citrus. The distillery also produces a range of other single malt expressions, including age stated and non age stated bottlings, each with its own unique character.
This single malt whisky was distilled in 2012 at the Glen Ord distillery in the Scottish Highland whisky region. It was matured 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels and in 2024 was bottled at 57.1% alc/vol as part of the Signatory Vintage 100 Proof range. This whisky has no added colouring and is unchillfiltered.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: A delightful interplay of sweet and floral notes. Honeyed sweetness intertwines with delicate floral aromas, reminiscent of honeysuckle and white blossoms. A subtle spiciness, akin to white pepper, adds complexity, while a gentle oaky undertone provides structure.
Palate: The palate is smooth and well-balanced, with flavours of ripe pear, apple, and a touch of citrus. The sweetness continues, with a creamy texture and a hint of vanilla. A gentle peppery note emerges, adding warmth and complexity to the overall profile.
Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with a lingering sweetness and a touch of oak spice. The flavours gradually fade away, leaving a pleasant aftertaste.
Overall Impression: This 11-year-old Glen Ord is a refined and elegant single malt. The balance between sweetness, spice, and oak is expertly executed, resulting in a harmonious and enjoyable dram. The influence of the first-fill bourbon casks is evident, imparting a rich and complex character to the spirit.
