Welcome to Scotland’s most northerly distillery situated on Orkney a large Island of the coast of northern Scotland. In the 18th century an infamous smuggler called Magnus Eunson operated an illicit distillery. When Magnus was caught one of the men who captured him was excise officer John Robertson who took over the running of the distillery in 1816.The distillery was founded in the 1790’s so this makes it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Every part of production here was done by hand and even today Highland Park still take time and hardwork by producing malted barley with tradition floor maltings. Highland Park is now owned by the Edrington Group and William Grant & Sons, it produces 2,500,000 litres of whisky annually. The distillery now has a very good visitors centre which was awarded 5 stars as a recognised attraction.

Light and dark are concepts that exist in opposition, yet together create a perfect balance. One cannot exist without the other; as one appears, the other disappears; together they create something greater than themselves – in nature, a perfect, continuous cycle. In THE LIGHT– a special release of only 28,000 bottles – we celebrate spring and summer in Orkney; a time to emerge from our winter’s hibernation, renewed and refreshed with a spring in our step, ready to embrace the warm bright days of summer. Presented in a beautifully embossed green glass bottle, the serpent dragon design takes its inspiration from the great Norse sagas and embraces both the high sun of the summer solstice and the low sun of the winter solstice – the polar opposites of our island seasons – while the runic writing reflects the ancient carvings of our Viking ancestors which can still be seen today, here in Orkney.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: This whisky has a vibrant nose, zesty and lots of citrus. Tropical fruits, green apple and shaved pencil scrappings.

Palate: Fresh fruity notes of pear, melon and mango. Vanilla and smoke combine to create a wonderful pathway to oak and spice.

Finish: Oily, waxy and fresh, oak and toffee.
