Kavalan Amontillado Single Malt Whisky is part of Kavalan’s highly acclaimed “Solist” (single cask) series, which features whiskies matured in various sherry and wine casks. Amontillado sherry is a dry, elegant, and nutty style of Fino sherry that has undergone oxidative aging, imparting complex layers of flavour to the whisky. No Age Statement (NAS). Kavalan focuses on maturation quality, and their whiskies mature much faster in Taiwan’s hot and humid climate. Even younger whiskies can achieve remarkable depth. Fully matured in Amontillado Sherry Casks. The distillery specifically selects high-quality, full-size sherry butts from Spain, ensuring a profound and authentic sherry influence. Typically bottled at cask strength, which can vary slightly from barrel to barrel but is generally high, often around 55-58% alc/vol. (Always check the specific bottle for its exact ABV, as it’s a single cask release). This whisky has been bottled at 56.3% alc/vol. It is non-chill filtered and has natural colour, adhering to Kavalan’s commitment to delivering an unadulterated and full-flavoured experience.

Our Tasting Notes

Kavalan Amontillado is celebrated for its deep complexity, balancing nutty dryness with sweet fruit, and the signature Kavalan tropical notes.

Nose: Rich and complex, with a captivating blend of sweet and savoury notes. Expect aromas of roasted nuts (hazelnuts, almonds), salted caramel, and dried fruits (apricots, figs). There are hints of honey, vanilla, and a subtle brininess, along with the characteristic Kavalan tropical fruit undertones (mango, passionfruit).

Palate: Full-bodied, oily, and intensely flavourful. The palate mirrors the nose, delivering a delightful fusion of nutty dryness from the Amontillado, alongside rich caramel, dark chocolate, and a medley of tropical and dried fruits. Spices like cinnamon and clove emerge, and there’s often a unique mineralic or savoury quality that provides balance. Despite the high ABV, it’s surprisingly smooth.

Finish: Long, warming, and profoundly satisfying. The nutty, savoury, and fruity notes linger beautifully, with a hint of espresso, dark chocolate, and a pleasant oak dryness. It leaves a memorable, evolving aftertaste.
