Nikka Date Japanese Blended Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 43% Age: No Age Statement Country: Japan
This bottling of Nikka Date is a blend of malt and grain whiskies produced in continuous stills called Coffey stills. These stills were used throughout Scotland and Ireland in the 1800’s and then became popular worldwide in a very short space of time. The stills produce a very light spirit, high in alcohol with fruity flavours. This combined with the water from the Nikkagawa river and the local climate allow Nikka to produce a whisky which is mild and fruity both on the nose and the palate.
The Nikka Date, pronounced “dah-teh was produced at the Nikka Miyagikyo distillery. The expression to ‘date’ has only been available in the city of Sendai where this distillery is situated. The name ‘date’ has been used to celebrate the works of Date Masamune who was a famous 15th century warlord of Japan.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: The grain is evident which makes the nose very fresh, slightly mild at first. The vanilla and orange notes are light and fragrant with some spice and oak.
Palate: The vanilla continues to the palate with some soft bubblegum sweetness, there’s caramel and more cereals. Very clean on the mouth and well balanced.
Finish: Long and dry with more vanilla and some spicy oak character
