The Balvenie, a name synonymous with craftsmanship and tradition, is a Speyside distillery that has captured the hearts of whisky enthusiasts worldwide. This particular expression was initially released as a “Travel Exclusive” bottling, meaning it was primarily available in duty-free shops at airports. This has made it more challenging to find in regular retail stores. Bottled at 43% alc/vol, a standard strength for many of The Balvenie’s expressions.

Nose: The aroma is typically rich and fruity, with a complex mix of blackcurrants, berries, and brambles. This is layered with sweeter notes of ginger syrup, subtle spice, honeycomb, and Medjool dates. Nutty and very pleasant.

Palate: On the palate, you can expect a rich fruitiness. Ripe fresh peaches and a zesty orange zing are often mentioned, alongside hazelnuts and a crisp, nutty oakiness. It carries the classic honeyed sweetness of The Balvenie but with a distinct, sweet and sour balance that comes from the Madeira cask. Hints of toffee and cinnamon.

Finish: The finish is long-lasting and warming. It’s a combination of sweet fruits, spices, and a gentle oaky dryness.
