The Shinobu Aged 10 Years Lightly Peated Pure Malt Japanese Whisky – Mizunara Oak Finish (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 43% Age: 10 Years Old Country: Japan
The Whisky
This exceptional bottling is the Shinobu Aged 10 Years Pure Malt Whisky, showcasing a unique fusion of light peat smoke and the rare complexity of Japanese oak. This “Pure Malt” (blended malt) is composed of whiskies aged for a minimum of 10 years in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. The spirit is then given a meticulous final maturation in highly prized, difficult to source Mizunara Japanese Oak Barrels. Bottled at 43% alc/vol, the profile is one of elegant sweetness, delicate peat, and the unmistakable incense like spice of Mizunara wood.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Complex and intriguing, offering gentle notes of light smoke and warm leather, beautifully layered with sandalwood, coconut, and vanilla.
Palate: Smooth and delicate, featuring honeyed malt, fresh citrus, and the subtle, spicy influence of the Mizunara oak, which presents as notes of oriental incense and clove.
Finish: Medium and elegant, concluding with lingering sweet oak, a gentle nuttiness, and a clean wisp of smoke.
The Master Blender
The Shinobu Distillery and brand were founded by Master Blender Mr. Ken Usami, who is renowned in the industry for his expertise in Japanese sake brewing and distilling. His vision for Shinobu is to create whiskies that are both globally competitive and distinctly Japanese, focusing heavily on innovative cask management. His careful selection of global malts and the final finishing in Mizunara oak barrels ensures a distinct, high-quality character for every Shinobu release.
The Shinobu Brand & Craftsmanship
The Shinobu Distillery is located in Niigata, Japan, a region celebrated for its clean air, cold climate, and pure water source. The name “Shinobu” means “forbearance” or “patience,” reflecting the time required for the unique Mizunara oak to fully mature the spirit. The process involves sourcing fine malt whiskies (the Pure Malt), blending them, and then finishing them in the native Japanese oak. This commitment to both tradition and innovative finishing results in whiskies that are smooth, harmonious, and truly expressive of Japanese craftsmanship
