Since 1898, the BenRiach distillery has very quietly been producing quality single malt scotch whisky, which has only ever been enjoyed in very small quantities, by a few discerning individuals who have been fortunate enough to come by a bottle. BenRiach, located in the Heart of Speyside – just south of Elgin, using casks containing the highest quality whisky has taken the industry experts by surprise due to their complexity and subtlety. Single malts from BenRiach have been called “perfection”, faultless” and “astounding” in Jim Murray’s 2014 Whisky Bible. With the BenRiach Aged 16 Years taking out Best Speyside Single Malt in the recent 2015 Icons of Whisky” “World Whisky Awards. Some are no less than outstanding examples of the art of whisky production. This whisky stock, reflecting the skill, knowledge and experience that has gone into the making of BenRiach is testimony to the many years stretching back to the 19th century during which the distillery built its reputation. Few distilleries in Scotland hold such a history and few today can have quite such an exciting future.

Fresh from winning ‘Best Speyside Single Malt Whisky’ in the 2015 World Whisky Awards this unpeated whisky has been matured in a selection of bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks for no less than 16 years. The Sixteen sees the return of the much loved 16 years old however the predecessor has a new recipe, brought o us by Rachel Barrie the Master Blender.

An exciting addition to the Benriach collection, with a shiny new unpeated 16-year-old single malt! Matured in a selection of bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks, The Sixteen is based on a revised recipe of its much-adored predecessor, Benriach 16 Year Old. With a generously fruity core, supported by layers of creamy malt and toasted spice, it’s a splendid sipper from the Speyside-based distillery.

“Our signature Speyside style blossoms at ten years old, finding depth and richer layers of orchard fruit character as it turns sixteen. Our core flavour components of fruit, malt and oak become more concentrated, enriched with age at sixteen years old, bringing layers of stone fruit, smooth creamy malt, wild honey and nutty oak spice.” said Rachel Barrie.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried apple with toasted hazelnuts, digestive biscuits, ginger snap cookies, apricot and rich toasted oak.

Palate: Creamy porridge with poached peaches, tinned apricots, brown sugar and stewed apple with plum pudding.

Finish: Long and creamy, toasted honey glazed macadamia nuts, creamy barley and baking spices, wood spice and a hint of char.
