The Edradour 2003 Aged 21 Years Small Batch Bourbon Barrel Matured Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a testament to the dedication and artistry of Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Located in the picturesque town of Pitlochry in the Highlands, Edradour is renowned for its traditional production methods and its ability to create exceptional single malt whiskies.
This 21 year old expression, distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2024, showcases the distillery’s commitment to quality and its mastery of cask selection. It’s a small batch release, meaning it’s a blend of whiskies from several casks, carefully chosen for their complementary characteristics and exceptional flavour profiles.
Unlike many Edradour releases which are finished in sherry casks, this 21 year old expression was matured entirely in bourbon barrels. This allows the spirit’s natural character to shine through, showcasing the distillery’s signature fruity and floral notes, complemented by the vanilla, honey, and spice influences from the bourbon casks.
Edradour Distillery is known for its hands on approach to whisky making, with much of the process still carried out using traditional methods. This dedication to craftsmanship is reflected in the quality and character of their whiskies. The Edradour 2003 21 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Matured is bottled at a cask strength of 54.3% alc/vol, non-chill filtered, and with natural colour, preserving its full flavour and intensity.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is a captivating mix of orchard fruits, honey, and vanilla. A touch of citrus zest adds a refreshing lift, while subtle spice notes and a hint of toasted oak provide depth and complexity.
Palate: The palate is rich and full bodied, with a burst of flavours that evolve with each sip. The sweetness of honey and vanilla combines with the bright fruitiness of apples, pears, and a touch of tropical fruit. The bourbon cask influence is evident, adding a layer of caramel and spice.
Finish: The finish is exceptionally long and satisfying, with the sweetness and spice notes lingering. A subtle oakiness and a hint of dried fruit provide a warm and comforting conclusion.
