Micil Inverin is a small-batch blended Irish whiskey that draws inspiration from the illicit distilling traditions of Connemara. It’s crafted by Micil Distillery, a family run operation that has been making poitín and Irish whiskey for generations.

This expression is a unique blend of five different whiskeys, each matured in a different cask type. The blend includes grain whiskey, single malt, and peated malt whiskeys, creating a complex and layered flavour profile. The casks used for maturation include re-charred ex-bourbon quarter casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, and even Micil’s own peated poitín octaves. This triple cask finish adds further depth and intrigue to the whiskey.

Micil Inverin is bottled at 46% alc/vol, non-chill filtered, and with no added colouring, ensuring a natural and flavourful experience.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose is a balanced combination of peat and charred wood smoke, reminiscent of a Connemara landscape. Baked apples and pears add a fruity sweetness, while vanilla and honey provide a delicate sweetness. Pink peppercorn spice adds a touch of warmth.

Palate: The palate is rich and full-bodied, with the peat smoke continuing from the nose. Smoked almonds and sizzling bacon provide a savoury counterpoint, while a touch of redcurrant and chewy vanilla fudge add sweetness and complexity.

Finish: The finish is long and warming, with the spices lingering alongside smouldering embers. The peat smoke remains present, but it’s well-integrated with the other flavours, creating a balanced and satisfying conclusion.
