Ben Nevis Distillery is located in the western Highlands of Scotland, in the town of Fort William. The distillery takes its name from the mountain that towers above it, Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles. The distillery was established in 1825 by John McDonald, making it one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries. It has a rich and complex history, including ownership by “Long John” Macdonald, a pioneer in the industry, and later by Japanese distilling giant Nikka Whisky Distilling Company since 1989. Ben Nevis produces a robust spirit with a distinctive malty character, often noted for waxy fruits and subtle smoke.

This 11 year old expression, is part of the Cadenhead Original Collection and allows the distillery’s distinctive spirit to shine. Matured to perfection to bring out its complex character. Distilled in 2012, this bottling is an excellent representation of Ben Nevis’s style, often showcasing a particular heft and oiliness that makes it stand out among Highland malts. This particular bottling was matured in a Bourbon Hogshead, allowing the spirit to speak for itself with a restrained cask influence that highlights Ben Nevis’s unique character. Bottled at 46% alc/vol and is non-chill filtered with natural colour, adhering to Cadenhead’s philosophy of authentic presentation. Our Tasting Notes

This 11-year-old dram from the Highland distillery offers a fascinating and complex profile, balancing the spirit’s character with subtle cask influence.

Nose: Aromas of apple strudel, grassy notes, and icing sugar. Hints of white grapes and cinnamon may also be present, providing a fresh lift.

Palate: Creamy and wholegrain cereal notes are prominent, with flavours of malty sweetness and gooseberries. A unique oiliness, characteristic of Ben Nevis, is evident.

Finish: Reveals notes of kiwi skin and flint, alongside salted caramel, barley sugar, and barley drops, leaving a satisfying and evolving impression. This Original Collection bottling allows the spirit to speak for itself, offering a genuine taste of Ben Nevis.
