The Whisky
This is a rare and profound single malt from The Glenlivet Distillery, showcasing its spirit aged for nearly two decades in an intensely active cask. Distilled in 2006 and matured for a full 18 years, this whisky spent its entire life in a First Fill Oloroso ex-Sherry Butt (#901028). This full term sherry maturation has imparted deep colour, phenomenal spice, and concentrated fruit notes. Bottled by Signatory Vintage for their exclusive Cask Strength Collection, it is presented at an unadulterated strength of 59.1% alc/vol, without chill-filtration or added colour, delivering maximum flavour.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich, heavy sherry influence dominates with notes of dried figs, Christmas pudding, worn leather, and dark cocoa, complemented by classic Glenlivet apple and pear notes.
Palate: Full bodied and immensely chewy. Explosive dark fruit (black cherry and plum), mingled with hot baking spices (cinnamon and clove), concentrated honey, and a powerful oak backbone.
Finish: Extremely long, warming, and sophisticated. The sherry sweetness gradually gives way to dry cocoa powder and lingering spicy oak.
The Independent Bottler
Signatory Vintage is one of Scotland’s most respected independent bottlers, celebrated for its unwavering commitment to quality and transparency. Established in 1988 by brothers Andrew and Brian Symington, Signatory Vintage quickly carved a niche by offering single cask, un-chillfiltered, and natural colour whiskies – practices that were far less common at the time but are now widely revered by connoisseurs. Their name, “Signatory,” stems from their original intention to have famous personalities sign the labels of their special bottlings, a unique concept that unfortunately proved impractical but left a lasting legacy in their brand name. Over the decades, Signatory Vintage has amassed an astonishing collection of casks from distilleries across Scotland, including many silent stills. This extensive inventory allows them to release an incredibly diverse range of whiskies, from youthful and vibrant expressions to incredibly rare and aged treasures. Each bottle is a testament to the individual character of the distillery and the unique journey of the liquid within its cask.
Signatory Vintage represents an unparalleled opportunity to explore the true essence of Scotch whisky. Their commitment to bottling at natural cask strength, un-chillfiltered, and without added colouring ensures that every drop delivers the purest and most authentic distillery character. When you choose a Signatory Vintage bottling, you’re not just buying a whisky; you’re acquiring a piece of liquid history, a unique expression that tells its own story from cask to glass. Discover the depth and diversity of Scotland’s finest spirits with Signatory Vintage.
The Distillery
The Glenlivet is a legendary Speyside distillery, founded in 1824 and credited with pioneering the regional style of light, floral, and elegant single malts. Located in the Livet Valley, the distillery is known for its tall, wide stills and dedication to high-quality, long-aged expressions. While the distillery’s official releases focus on elegance, independent bottlings like this showcase the true depth and power the spirit can achieve when paired with a highly active sherry butt.
